Tools 4 Teachers
Implementing your SHAPE
program should coincide with and be reinforced by classroom studies on
traffic safety, health and environmental issues. While you are
encouraging children, parents and caregivers to walk, bike or take
transit, it is helpful if students are learning the reasons for doing
so as part of their studies.
The opportunities for
cross-curriculum work involving traffic safety and related issues with
math (graphs, statistics, tables), science, language arts, visual &
performing arts, and physical education are numerous. Teachers are
always on the lookout for new and exciting ideas that are easy to
implement in the classroom. Share the curricular activities described
below with your teacher SHAPE liaison or
classroom teachers. These classroom activities have been done
successfully in a number of schools and are both fun and educational.
